The Environmental challenges S.P.E.L.T out for Europe

March 7, 2009

I don’t know about you, but often when I’m reading up on environmental issues and the challenges we face in regards to this can be rather overwhelming. Much of the text uses scientific jargon sometimes making it impossible for the average reader to understand.

However, the European’s have caught on to the urgent need for environmental news to be made much more accessible. The European Environment Agency (EEA) is currently developing a new system which should allow the average reader to engage with environmental data. The European Union and The Shared Environmental Information System have collaborated with the EEA in order make this new initiative happen.

This will effectively simplify environmental information therefore making such data much more accessible to the public. “While simplification is an essential element of drafting better legislation, better policy does depend on high quality, relevant and timely information(SEIS).

This will mean that Europe’s citizens will have a bigger picture on the condition of Europe’s environment and an improved public policy as a consequence.

The notion behind this incentive is to make the public more aware of environmental conditions in effort to tackle the impoverishment of the environment at a individual level.

I say, please enlighten us all!
